Grant ‘Twiggy’ Baker with the season’s quiver at Pukas Surf.

The South African three Times World Big Wave Surfing Champion, Grant “Twiggy” Baker, always pays a visit when big waves season is on.

Can you imagine traveling back and forth around the globe with these beast as your luggage? Quite difficult when you only have 48 to 24 hours most certainty prediction of big waves coming in right?

If you think about BIG waves in the 90’s, your mind travels fast to places like Waimea in Hawaiior Mavericks in California. There was nothing else. Shaping guns in the Basque Country at the time, sounded bananas but hey, you need to bit a little crazy for that too, right?

At the time, bringing here, under the International Pukas Shapers Project, Hawaiian shaperslike Reno Abellira or Pat Rawson was mind blowing. This, right here, was the starting point for the European BIG-wave culture community. Ibon Amatriain, Axi Muniain and lot more are good examples of the time.

Today, Grant “Twiggy” Baker is one our biggest inspirations. Our relationship with him goes far but it was in the last 7 years that we shape his boards quiver and keep them ready for the time he comes to Europe for surfing the BIG ones.

Beautiful standout tails, low rails, super high-performance flat deck boards. This is definitely the future of big wave boards right here. Grant “Twiggy” Baker.

Grant ‘Twiggy’ Bakershowing the Quiver for the Season at Pukas Surf.

Twiggy works with different factories when it comes to building his boards and you build a very personal relationship when you adapt the designs given from him to the local kind of waves around the world. We do that job for when it comes to Europe and we cannot be more proud of this team and the work we do with him.

The 8’0″ and 9’0″ are my favorite big wave board sizes just because you can get soooo barrelled on that sized board. You are riding them in the 10-12ft range, so you can go real high-performance big wave surfing on those and get serious big barrels. Grant “Twiggy” Baker

The 8’0″ and the 9’0″ are Roka Puta and Meakoz machines. The 10’0″ is made for big Punta Galea. For Nazar (Portugal) we make a 10’6″ every year. That’s my magic size for me for Nazar; I can catch prettybig waves on that.Grant “Twiggy” Baker

* Insiders tip|Most people getting a gun for the first time jump into the range from a 76 to 86. However, when you get to that point, acquire one bigger than the one you are thinking about, because then, you will be ready to jump into serious wave business.
